2.0 out of 5 stars terrible d-pad and ugly screen tearing This is a junky product. The directional pad is awful and doesn't register all my button presses. I can't play Mario Bros well which makes this thing almost worthless. Even Tetris is a chore to play. At first it seemed pretty good because the games run smoothly, and there is a good selection of classic NES games on here, including Mario 3, perhaps the greatest video-game of all time. But the directional pad is so bad that it's no fun to play, only frustrating. There is also ugly screen tearing when the screen scrolls, creating a distracting warping effect. My 5 year old told Santa that he wanted Mario for Christmas on his tv 😩 I was not ready to buy video games but I saw these and thought the price was perfect. I bought my 3 and 5 year old boys each one for Christmas. Huge hit! They have so much fun playing Mario and a lot of the other games like superman and excite bike. The batteries last forever I’ve only had to charge them once or twice since Christmas. We have not tried to hook it up to the TV yeah we do want to try that eventually. My 12-year-old girl thinks it’s fun to play too and so do my husband and I. great value! One person found this helpful

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY! IT'S A RIP OFF!! The gaming console was supposed to be yellow. I got a black one with a huge scratch on the screen. Then, the hand held game didn't work unless it was plugged in and the cord had a short in it. My son still wanted to keep it because he thought he was doing so awesome at playing the games. That's when I actually took a look at the gaming console and I realized that my son wasn't actually playing the games! The games played on their own and my 5 yr old just thought he was playing! I was flabbergasted! I couldn't believe that we had been scammed! I immediately returned it after seeing that! So, don't waste your money. It's cheaply made, the battery life is terrible and you're not really playing the games...the games are playing themselves!! 14 people found this helpful

I really like this thing so far. My only beefs with it are as follows:1) High scores are not retained after shutting it off. Unless you plan on leaving it on perpetually, don't expect to see your high scores next time you pick it up.2) The buttons (particularly the A/B/X/Y ones) are smaller than I expected. That said, I'm a big dude with big hands, so I'm sure this is just a personal preference for them to be bigger. They'll be fine for most folks I'd imagine. The smaller buttons also didn't really make it difficult for me to play, but just a tiny bit less comfortable.3) No battery level indicator. There appears to be no way to tell if the battery is running out. That said, I've played it for around 5-6 hours so far without the battery running out, so I figure if you just plug it in when you aren't using it then you shouldn't have any problems.4) Lots of games to choose from, but they seem to be in a random order in the list. I would have expected them to be in the list alphabetically, but they aren't which can make it annoying to find a particular game.5) Screen is harder to see in high sunlight. This didn't really surprise me as it's a common issue with electronics, but I just thought I'd mention it.Overall, I'm happy with this game "console" for what it is, but the annoyances are causing me to give it 4 stars instead of a full 5. 102 people found this helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for car rides! We got these at Christmas for both of our kids, specifically for car rides and other places without internet or computer access. The games are great and the adults love them, too. It was a lot of fun watching the kids show all the older family and them playing back and forth. They charge well and the battery last a good while, but you'd have to charge them if traveling more than a couple hours. 5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the $24 I picked this up after dropping an earlier version of the same thing into some water, which killed it. The new one seems to have slightly better screen resolution and (yay) the addition of a headphone jack, which was sorely missing on older models. It seems well made (at least for the price point) and it works perfectly. Of the 168 games included on it, about 20 are actually playable/worth playing, but even if all you ever do on it is play Dr. Mario, Dig Dug or Donkey Kong, you'll absolutely get your money's worth out of it. 13 people found this helpful

Trips or a relaxing afternoon. The plastic is hard and durable. The battery life is respectable. The graphics are a great replica of my childhood memories. For the price point you can't lose. It has a good battery life and all the games you could ever want. None of the retro NES consoles I've found have Paperboy, but this does! 3.0 out of 5 stars This Is A Duplicate I bought a few emulators like this one from multiple companies (through Amazon), and to the surprise of no one, they're all the same.Essentially the same build quality, the same list of games, it runs the same emulator as most of the others. As in the exact title screen and everything.Its not great, feels remarkably cheap, and while some of the games are good and run well, you can find this exact model in a different color from another company for the same price with a spare controller. 9 people found this helpful

4.0 out of 5 stars If you keep your expectations in check, you'll be satisfied. There's a lot to like about this little device. For one, the d-pad and buttons are actually pretty great. I was pulling off precision jumps in Mario, and nailed the Konami code the first time in Contra. The screen quality is not the greatest, it's a little fuzzy and stretched due to the original 4:3 aspect ratio of the games, but not too bad really.Overall it has a couple dozen classics that are worth playing, and a bunch of no-name filler roms.I gifted it to a teenage nephew who was interested in trying some retro games, and for the price it didn't leave me feeling anxious I wasted money if he never goes back to play them. 4 people found this helpful

It's super frustrating cause everything else has been fine. We especially like the headphone jack so my son can play it while we're at rehearsal and not disturb anyone.

Ok, we can deal with that, but then his cord came apart at the plug. So we let him use one of his brothers cord and it broke at the same spot. But cool that's when a lot of these style games came out and were developed. My grandkids would laugh as they have the newest versions to use. But this isn't to bad. Turn the volumn down a little and go for it. Can't otherwise give battery etc fair rating as it's just hooked up. As a portable to go I'd say but a magnifier sheet. It does trip or glitch out when certain buttons or areas are pressed, and example in the middle of playing Mario Bros 3, sucks to start from the beginning. But for the amount paid, it's very good for the low price.

And the return is not the usual easy Amazon return... you have to print a label and package it up. One more task I had to do with all the rest of it. Just a nuisance; buyer beware.
